Improving Mathematics Education for  All Students
The primary goal of mathematics education is deep understanding of important mathematics — for teachers, so that they can teach effectively, and for students, so that they can appreciate and apply mathematics.

The mathematics curriculum should include legacy content — the tried-and-true topics of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry; and also future content — the mathematics needed now and in the future to prepare students for the rapidly changing, information-dense, technology-intensive world of the 21st century, mathematics such as more statistics and probability and important topics from discrete mathematics.

Mathematics education must shift from an over-emphasis on memorizing and practicing facts and procedures, to a more powerful goal of understanding and applying mathematical concepts and methods.
